There are many organisations that have a stake in the JET Programme and whose roles in your life as a JET are important. Most of them come with easily confused acronyms, too! AJET has ties with many of these groups, but perhaps our most important link is with the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations, known to most JETs simply as CLAIR.
Since the inception of the JET Programme in 1987, AJET has played a critical role in contributing to the Programme’s successful evolution and seeing that JETs get the representation they need. Even now that the JET Programme is well established, the AJET National Council still considers its representative role to be one of its most important activities. We maintain a close and positive working relationship with CLAIR throughout the year, highlighted by our face-to-face discussion forums every Spring and Autumn.

AJET-CLAIR-MEXT Opinion Exchange Meeting - November 2008
In November 2008, discussions between AJET, CLAIR and MEXT covered the following topics:
- JET Handover Procedures
- CLAIR and MEXT Team Teaching Materials
- Pre-Departure Japanese Study Materials
- AJET General Activities
- JET Alumni
You can check out the details of some recent reports in our download section.
Sometimes it is difficult for issues arising out of these discussions to be resolved swiftly, but by working together, AJET and CLAIR are able to make progress in small steps. We are always looking for solutions to JET problems and ways to improve the JET Programme as a whole.
Besides for its role in implementing the JET Programme, CLAIR is engaged in many other activities that promote international exchange across Japan. For more information about CLAIR, check out their web site at www.clair.or.jp in Japanese or English.
