As English teachers living and working in Japan, we benefit in countless ways from being immersed in a culture other than our own, and now it’s time we give our students that same chance to experience the world.
The members of the Hiroshima JET Scholarship Fund Committee are a diverse group of JETs located throughout Hiroshima prefecture. We love teaching and interacting with our students, so when we asked ourselves how we can make a real difference in their lives, the answer was simple: to help them achieve their dream of studying English abroad. Not only would such an adventure help them grow emotionally and intellectually, but also the students would return to Japan with an expanded and more mature worldview from having experienced another culture.
Our goal at this early stage is to raise ¥250,000 through in-person fundraising activities and through online donations via Indiegogo. The money will then be awarded to one junior high school (3rd grade) or senior high school student (1st or 2nd grade) to assist them in funding a study abroad program of their choice, with the excess funds going toward future scholarships in the hopes that we can increase the number of recipients in subsequent years and maintain the scholarship fund for incoming JETs.
