Purpose
The National AJET Teaching Awards Programme was created to recognise educators who lead by example. It has proven to be an effective tool for awarding outstanding and inspirational teachers, strengthening ties between teachers and nominators, and motivating all language teachers involved to improve their teaching abilities.
Programme Details
- Any JET Programme participant (ALT, CIR, SEA) may nominate a Japanese teaching colleague who has made exceptional efforts to improve the education of their students.
- Nominations are made by using the online Teaching Awards nomination form which includes a submission of 250-500 words.
- Nominations will be accepted in either English or Japanese.
- Multiple nominations may be submitted by the same JET participant.
- Nominations are accepted by the National AJET Education Liaison.
- Entries are judged by the AJET National Council.
Judging Criteria
- Entries should describe in as much detail as possible why the nominee deserves a teaching achievement award.
- The judges will consider the following when evaluating entries:
- The use of activities that motivate students to communicate in another language;
- The use of activities that promote international understanding;
- The demonstration of excellent team teaching practices so as to effectively utilise the JET within the classroom.
- Level of creativity used by the Japanese teacher;
- The extension of second language education into other areas of the school curriculum.
Recognition
Nominated teachers who clearly demonstrate any or all of the judging criteria will receive a certificate of achievement along with a letter of recognition sent to the principal of their respective schools by National AJET announcing their nomination by a JET Programme participant.
