YAMAGUCHI AJET

What is AJET?

The Association for Japan Exchange and Teaching, or AJET, is a support and social network for JET Programme participants. A national organisation, AJET organises cultural, sporting and charity events, publishes a range of books and information, maintains a counselling service, and represents JETs and their concerns to CLAIR. AJET has existed since the inception of the JET Programme and continues to be a volunteer organisation, run by JETs, for JETs. Closer to home, AJET Prefectural Chapters organize events and provide support to JETs at a local level. It is these events that help provide JETs with social opportunities and a local support network.

INTRODUCTION TO YAMAGUCHI AJET

So, what is Yamaguchi AJET?

Yamaguchi AJET is the Association of JETs within Yamaguchi Prefecture. Yamaguchi AJET answers to the National Council but work independently. We organise social events, provide support and information (through e-mail, server lists and the Yamaguchi publication Zenzen), and generally keep the prefecture together. Although it is small compared to the AJET branches in many other prefectures in Japan (we have only about 70 JETs in Yamaguchi), we are a close-knit community and Yamaguchi AJET works hard to stage many social and cultural events for the JETs in the area.

What kind of events do Yamaguchi AJET run?

Yamaguchi AJET activities over the last year included; hiking, bowling, watching baseball in Hiroshima, a formal Christmas Ball, a British style quiz night, beach BBQ, large newcomers’ and leavers’ parties, and various other events and parties throughout the prefecture. Over the next year we hope to run many more great trips, events and parties. We hope these events provide opportunities for everyone to make lasting friendships here in Japan, and to help people enjoy their time in Yamaguchi ken.

Why should I join Yamaguchi AJET?

You do not have to join AJET (but you should!), but in doing so you will receive Zenzen publications, and discounts at the great events in the coming year.

Yamaguchi AJET dues are 2,000yen for the year, and you can join at any time…although the sooner you join, the sooner you start saving.
