Greetings from the 2012-2013 AJET National Council!

Hey, JETs! It’s that time of year again! Your AJET National Council members have changed!

We would like to express our sincere thanks for all of the 2011-2012’s Council’s hard work. They did more than we can say last year, which you can read about in detail here. As the new council moves forward, we plan to utilize the past council’s AJET brand identity, continue developing the AJET iConnect smartphone application, and add to AJET’s current Professional Development and Teaching resources.

This year, the 2012-2013 Council is making you our priority. The core mission of AJET can be simplified as Community, Resource, and Voice; and you can plan to see us focus on our JET Community in 2012. As JETs, we are part of one of the largest language and culture exchange initiatives in the world, but this means nothing when we are divided into a few ALTs, a couple of CIRs, or an SEA here or there. Our strength lies in our community and connections. Let’s work together to further the aims of the JET Programme, foster international ties and support each other as professionals in Japan.

We want to hear from you! What resources will you utilize the most? What issues matter to you? What can we do to make your life and work in Japan easier? The 2012-2013 Council wants to stay in touch to make sure we are meeting your needs as JETs. Join our Facebook groups, send us e-mails, talk to us at events. We’re here for you!

We have a lot of fun and exciting things planned this year as Block Representatives and as National Council members. We hope that we can connect with you as we continue to grow our JET support network and to represent your views at the national level to CLAIR, MOFA, MEXT, and MIC.

Speak out as the year goes on—tell us what your passion is! This is not about us; it is about you, and we would love to give your hard work the recognition it deserves.

Here’s to a great year!
