In September 2013, current JET participants and JET alumni participated in the autumn surveys conducted by AJET. With the data gathered, the AJET National Council worked for weeks analysing the results and writing reports on three key topics: Community Involvement, Disaster Awareness and Preparedness, and Life After the JET Programme. Once the reports were completed, they underwent an intense review and revision process to ensure that we would present the best information possible at the Winter 2013 Opinion Exchange. Each report and all of its attached graphs were also translated into Japanese by a very dedicated team of volunteers across Japan so ensure that all readers would have a clear picture of the reports’ findings. Finally, on December 16th, eight members of the AJET National Council met with officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC); the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA); the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT); and the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR) to review the results of the autumn/winter surveys and their implications. The discussion surrounding the findings was fruitful and informative for all parties and we hope to see positive changes made in the near future based on these results.
Please find the executive summaries of each report below as an introduction to the full reports. We hope that the entire JET community will find the results as interesting and informative as we did.
